The past couple years we’ve been setting our sites on big things and it’s hard to be honest with what you really, really want. It’s not just that it’s scary to think you could fail it’s also daunting to lay that work out for yourself. Setting goals means taking steps to achieve them and big goals = big work = effort and that doesn’t mesh well with my love of Netflix and laziness. Oh well haha.
So, with that lead up where I seriously must have used the word “goal” at least 30 times… ew… here’s what we are working on this year!
Big Budget Goals!
- Paying off our student loans completely – I started the year with $55,000 in loans and Nic has just under $25,000. That’s a goal of paying off almost $80,000 of debt in a single year and I’m terrified.
- Put 30 days worth of Emergency Fund into savings – the downside to consulting is that there is always a possibility to have gaps in contracts. So I’m trying to increase our savings to give us at least a 30 day cushion before things get dire and we have to sell a child to make ends meet.
- Stretch Goal: Pay off all our debt in 2020 – This is an insane and completely impossible stretch goal. After our student loans are paid off we would have a $19,000 car note to pay off before we would be truly debt free. I don’t know that we could swing that in a single year, but holy crap I want to try!
There, now they exist outside my brain. Those are the insane and impossible things we are working on tackling this year. I have butterflies just seeing them on a screen.
Big goals are so important! Goals that make us stretch and reach for things that feel impossible. Keep reaching for the impossible because the reality is it’s all possible. It’s just sitting there waiting for you to speak it into existence and then come find it.
So let’s make impossible things happen together. Crush student loans, annihilate credit card debt, move into those new jobs, and ask for the raises we deserve! It’s 2020 baby, stop telling yourself it can’t happen.
You can do this, I know you can! So set your goals and kill it… and share this with a friend! You’re the bomb, talk to you soon!
